Job summary

Canal School in Westbrook is seeking a caring, dedicated long term substitute Kindergarten teacher for the 2026-27 year. The role focuses on reading, writing, phonics, handwriting and math in a workshop model with targeted small groups.

Ideal candidates will have experience with Units of Study, From Phonics to Reading, Handwriting Without Tears and Zearn, plus strong classroom management and a commitment to student relationships and holistic growth.

Job description

Canal School is looking for a caring, dedicated, and engaging long term substitute teacher to start the 2026-27 school year with our diverse and culturally rich Kindergarten students.

This is a 6-7 week long-term substitute teacher position.

A Kindergarten Teacher will provide direct instruction in reading, writing, phonics, handwriting, and math utilizing a workshop model with whole class instruction and targeted small group instruction. Experience with Units of Study, From Phonics to Reading, Handwriting Without Tears, and Zearn is preferable. Strong classroom management practices and commitment to building and maintaining relationships with our students is a must to ensure our students are cared about and their social, emotional, and academic growth is paramount. We are looking for a collaborative and energetic educator.

Salary range: $110-$286 per day.
