Laurens Academy is seeking an assistant teacher to join our elementary program. The role supports planning and implementing the daily schedule under the teacher and lower school director, prepares learning environments, and supervises students when the lead teacher isn’t present.
The ideal candidate will be reliable, patient, and able to maintain a safe and orderly classroom, attending staff meetings and training as required.
Laurens Academy began in the fall of 1994 with ten fifth grade students meeting in the fellowship hall of Todd Memorial Presbyterian Church. The school was started by a group of concerned parents and educators who believed there was a need for a local alternative the the educational option in Laurens County.
The assistant teacher will arrive at 7:30 am and leave at 3:30.
Assist in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the teacher and the lower
school director.
Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up skill centers, and preparing
needed materials and supplies.
Supervise the classroom as the main/sole caregiver of students when the teacher is not present.
Follow Laurens Academy guidelines for playground supervision.
Help with the general housekeeping tasks; maintain order and cleanliness.
Assist in other duties as appropriate.
Accept adjustments in assigned duty when asked to meet the needs of our students.
Treat all children with dignity, gentleness, and respect.
Provide safety and security for students - physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Attend staff meetings (including In-Service week), Professional Development, and recommended
training programs and conferences.
Other duties or responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
Must be a born-again believer in Jesus Christ; be involved with a Christian church of like faith and
practice; and agree with the philosophies of Laurens Academy.
Have a commitment to the mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of Christian schooling as
expressed by Laurens Academy.
Experience working with young students is preferred but not required.
Must pass a background check and present a negative tuberculosis test.
Ability to evacuate students in the event of an emergency.
Ability to sit, bend, stand, or sit on low chairs or floor as needed in care of and interactions with
students.
