TEACHER: 2025-2026
REPORTS TO:
Director and Special Education Supervisor, Academy Administrator/ Elementary School Principal
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
To provide an approved special education program and establish a class environment that fosters learning and personal growth, to help pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education, and to maintain good relationships with parents and other staff members. The teacher must be able to move about the building, go up and down stairs, and move within classrooms to assist students.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Ten-month position
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Special Education Supervisor and/or Academy Administrator/Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides instruction to classified students in accordance with each student’s individualized education program whether self-contained, in a resource setting; during in-class resource or co-teaching scenarios.
Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides whole class, individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each student while following but practicing in an inclusive model.
Sets specific objectives in lesson preparation and daily lesson plans and carries through presentation to effectively achieve these objectives.
Collaborates with general education teaching staff to coordinate instructional activities and/or monitor the progress of each student in the regular classroom or resource center as assigned.
Maintains records of student’s educational progress in class record books and/or Board approved forms for reporting purposes.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning.
Consults with members of the Child Study Team and other professional staff regarding each student’s educational program, academic program and personal growth. Meets at least once annually with the case manager, parents and other professional staff to review and revise the individualized education program and placement of each assigned student.
Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to inform them about the school program and to discuss student progress.
Maintains professional competence and continuous improvement through in-service education and other professional growth activities.
Participates in school level planning, faculty meetings, committees and other school system groups.
Makes effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional program.
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor, the Superintendent of Schools or his designee.
