Job summary

Qualifications

• Hold at least an Associate's Degree or 48 hours transferable college coursework.
• Completion of Pathways to Teacher Assistant I (48 hours) and Teacher Assistant Training II (48 hours) for 96 contact hours.
• Must meet all qualifications prescribed by the State Board of Education and maintain bus driver certification as required by the principal.

Responsibilities

• Follow all rules, policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school issues.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
• Monitor work assigned by the teacher.
• Praise and reinforce achievement of students.
• Make copies of materials as needed.
• Serve as proctor during testing.
• Assist the teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on student needs, interests, and abilities.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence; participate in development and support of the school vision.
• Monitor student behavior and help maintain discipline in the classroom; record time out and in-class suspensions; assist with crisis prevention; de-escalation as needed.
• Monitor safety and well-being of students; monitor attitudes and encourage self-esteem.
• Assist with supervision during drills, assemblies, field trips; monitor lunch and recess; alert teacher to issues.
• Perform clerical duties; maintain student progress records; file incident reports; grade papers; check attendance; prepare displays and instructional material; operate audiovisual equipment.
• Assist with large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Serve as chief information source for substitute teachers.
• Perform related duties as requested by teacher/principal.
