Job summary

Wayne County Public Schools is seeking an Instructional Assistant to support teachers and students in a Grantham Elementary setting. Starting as a ten-month position, the assistant helps implement the teacher's plans, communicates effectively with students, and supports safety and discipline.

Qualifications

• Must meet Highly Qualified Status per state requirements.
• Requires educational qualifications or certifications as listed.

Responsibilities

• Follow all rules, policies and procedures and state/federal regulations.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
• Monitor and review work assigned by the teacher.
• Praise and reinforce student achievement.
• Assist with copies and materials as needed.
• Serve as proctor during testing.
• Develop strategies to reinforce material for individual needs.
• Maintain professional competence and support school vision.
• Monitor student behavior and help maintain classroom discipline.
• Assist with safety, crisis prevention and de-escalation as needed.
• Assist with supervision during drills, assemblies, field trips, lunch and recess.
• Perform clerical duties and maintain records of progress and attendance.
• Help with large group activities like reading aloud and storytelling.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Serve as information hub for substitute teachers.
• Perform related duties as requested by teacher/principal.
