Job summary

Georgia-Pacific LLC in Albany, GA is hiring a Kilns/Lift Operator to support our Lumber facility. Starting pay is $22/hour, with potential increases based on skills and contribution to overall mill performance.

Daily duties include kiln alarm monitoring, process control, and safe operation of burners and kilns to ensure quality drying. Schedule is 7:00 am–7:00 pm, with a 2/2/3 rotation and a .50 shift premium for overnight work.

Qualifications

• 6 months in a manufacturing, industrial, construction, farming, warehouse, or military setting.
• 6 months operating forklift, backhoe, front end loader, or skid steer.
• Willingness to work shifts and overtime when needed.

Responsibilities

• Monitor kiln alarms and respond appropriately.
• Control process variables (tank levels, temps, moisture).
• Operate burners and kilns safely to dry product.
• Troubleshoot machine center issues.
• Make critical decisions on burner operations and drying.
• Perform PMs and fix issues with precision.
• May work extra days or stay late for maintenance.
• Transport, store, and feed lumber with a multi-ton forklift.
• Maintain a neat, organized work area.
• Operate forklift outdoors in a climate-controlled environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

• Shift Hours: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm

Our Team

What You Will Do

• Knowledge and understanding of the kiln alarm system and be able to react appropriately.
• The ability to control a process (i.e. tank levels, temperatures, flows, moisture readings, etc.)
• Using a computer to control burners and kilns safely while properly drying a quality product.
• Troubleshooting complex problems within the machine center.
• Making critical decisions around burner operations and effective drying processes.
• Performing all PM’s and correct issues with precision and accuracy on machine center.
• Potentially work additional days or stay late on maintenance days when needed with short notice to perform tasks at machine center.
• Transport, store, and feed in-process lumber with multi-ton forklift (Taylor)
• Ensuring work area is neat and organized.
• Forklift operates 100% outside in a climate-controlled environment.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Basic Qualifications

• A minimum of six (6) months of experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, construction, farming, warehouse, or military environment OR completion of training/schooling in a related technical discipline.
• A minimum of six (6) months of experience operating a forklift, backhoe, front end loader, or skid steer.

What Will Put You Ahead

• A minimum of one (1) year of experience operating a dry kiln, either burner or boiler.
• At least one (1) year of experience operating a multi-ton forklift or other related heavy equipment.
• Experience with rigging equipment and knowing how to identify the load weight to understand what rigging equipment is needed.
