Job summary

YMCA in Winston-Salem, NC is hiring a Y Kids Zone Rep to supervise and engage children ages 6 weeks through 11 years during morning shifts (tu/wed or mon/wed and every other Fri/Sat). Under the Kids Zone Sr.

Director, you will lead activities aligned with Christian values, while upholding health and safety standards. The role emphasizes teamwork, flexible scheduling, and strong communication with parents and staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16 years; high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience with children or in a related field is preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead educational, age-appropriate activities for children ages 6 weeks–11 years.
• Maintain health, safety, and cleanliness standards in Kids Zone.
• Provide excellent customer service to members and their children.
• Maintain attendance records and supervise children.
• Communicate with staff and attend required trainings.

This shift is for 7:45am - 11:15am on Tues and Wednesday or Monday and Wednesday and every other Friday and Saturday morning.Under the direction of the Kids Zone Sr. Director and consistent with the Christian Mission of the YMCA, a Y Kids Zone Rep is responsible for supervising and leading activities to engage children in play and learning, while ensuring standards of health and safety are met.ResponsibilitiesLead educational, age-appropriate and Christian-valued activities for children ages 6 weeks-11 yearsMaintain health, safety and cleanliness standards of Kids ZoneProvide superior customer service to members and their childrenImplement assigned programmingMaintain accurate records relating to attendanceProvide care and supervision of children in Kids Zone with emphasis on overall safety and wellnessCommunicate appropriately with other staff members in a positive mannerAttend staff meetings and complete all required trainingsAssist with other duties as assignedMinimum of 16 years of ageHigh school diploma or equivalent preferredPrior experience working with children or in a related field preferredAbility to work well with children of various ages and abilitiesExcellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skillsAbility to handle multiple tasksWillingness to maintain a flexible scheduleCapable of working as a team playerAbility to maintain safe environmentObtain ASHI (CPR) certification within 30 days of employment (training is provided)Physical RequirementsAbility to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of timeMust be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weightMust be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 poundsAbility to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a timeRequires bending, pulling, crouching, leaning, kneeling, and walking, pushing, climbing, and jumpingMust be able to communicate verbally and in writing in such a way as to be easily understood by children, staff and parentsVisual and auditory ability to supervise and respond to critical situations with childrenPerformance may be measured by:The safety of all children in the assigned areaThe feedback from participants, parents, and Y leadershipThe pleasant environment and smooth operation of the Kids Zone program
