Job summary

YMCA Austin is seeking a Kids Play Team Member to create a safe, engaging space for children aged 6 weeks to 12 years. You will lead age-appropriate activities, support development across social, physical, spiritual, and cognitive domains, and warmly greet families.

You will interact on the floor with children, supervise at all times, and collaborate with a team to maintain a welcoming environment that reflects the YMCA’s mission and values.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16 years.
• Preferred bilingual proficiency in Spanish/English (not required).
• Previous experience in a childcare setting is advantageous.
• Experience caring for children aged 8 weeks to 12 years.
• Current certifications in First Aid, CPR/AED, and Emergency Oxygen are preferred.
• Ability to stay composed and effective in high-pressure situations.

Responsibilities

• Lead engaging, hands-on activities for children of all ages.
• Foster teamwork and cooperation through group games and projects.
• Create a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment for all children.
• Build relationships with children and families; greet by name and involve families.
• Interact with children at their level to support development.
• Ensure supervision and health/safety; attend to basic hygiene needs.
• Maintain clean, organized childcare spaces; keep parents informed.
• Attend staff meetings and follow program safety standards.
• Promote YMCA values and mission in every interaction.
• Serve as an ambassador of the Y’s culture and purpose.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
