Job summary

Union County Community Action, Inc. in Monroe, NC is hiring a dependable Cook to prepare nutritious, family-style meals for children and staff in Head Start programs.

Starting rate is $13.16 per hour with a Monday–Friday schedule from 6:30am to 2:30pm, totaling 40 hours per week. Responsibilities include prep, serving meals, maintaining kitchen cleanliness and safety, inventory support, and following CACFP guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Six months to one year of related food service experience preferred.
• Serve Safe Certification required within six months of employment.
• Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screening and TB test; random drug screenings may occur.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for children and staff.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and food safety standards.
• Assist with food inventory and supply organization.
• Follow CACFP and program nutrition guidelines.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely.
• Support a positive dining experience for children.
