Job summary

Piedmont Global, a Strategic Globalization Organization (SGO), seeks experienced Khmer Language and Culture Instructors to provide language training, mentoring, and testing for the National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, VA.

Responsibilities include planning Khmer classes, using established materials, assessing progress, and maintaining an online classroom via the FSI LMS. Prior experience with hybrid teaching and proficiency-based assessments is required.

Qualifications

• Khmer speaker with ILR level 4+ and strong knowledge of Cambodian culture.
• BA/BS, MA/MS, Ph.D. or foreign-equivalent degree in any field.
• Minimum 3 years teaching Khmer to adult learners in groups.
• Minimum 3 years teaching Khmer with proficiency-based or task-based curricula.
• Minimum 1 year administering proficiency-based assessments (DLPT/OPI or quizzes).
• Basic computer skills: email, MS Office, online meeting tools (Zoom/Teams/WebEx).
• Experience with hybrid teaching.

Piedmont Global, a Strategic Globalization Organization (SGO), is looking for experienced Khmer Language and Culture Instructors to provide language training, mentoring, and testing in Khmer for the School of Language Studies at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center (Formerly FSI).

Position Duration: August 17, 2026 – July 16, 2027.

Piedmont Global serves the DC Metro area and clients around the world with a full range of language and globalization services, including strategic globalization, language instruction, interpretation, translation, transcription, cultural sensitivity training, and localization. Our network of language professionals provides expertise in more than 200 languages, including regional dialects.

Duties

• Plan and conduct Khmer language classes in a small-group setting onsite in Arlington, VA.
  
• Use established materials and collaborate with the Language Training Supervisor (LTS) and other instructors on training and testing matters.
  
• Assess students’ progress and provide feedback; consult with the LTS and adapt teaching techniques to meet students’ individual needs.
  
• Conduct informal and formal progress assessments to evaluate students’ language proficiency and development.
  
• Provide a respectful, student-centered learning environment while offering encouragement and constructive feedback.
  
• Maintain an online classroom environment through the Foreign Service Institute’s Learning Management System.
  
• With prior approval from the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR), plan and/or participate in non-classroom activities in the Washington, DC area.
  

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Educated speaker of Khmer, preferably at ILR Level 4 or higher.
  
• Strong cultural knowledge of Cambodia and the Southeast Asia region.
  
• BA/BS, MA/MS, Ph.D., or foreign-equivalent degree in any field.
  
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching Khmer to adult learners in a group setting of two or more students.
  
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching Khmer using proficiency-based or task-based curricula.
  
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience administering proficiency-based assessments, such as serving as an FSI tester or rater, administering DLPT or OPI exams, or administering task-based quizzes or weekly assessments.
  
• Basic computer proficiency, including email, Microsoft Office Suite, and online meeting platforms such as Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams, and WebEx.
  
• Experience with hybrid teaching.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing foreign language instructional materials and/or curricula.
  
• Experience using the communicative approach to language teaching and incorporating a range of educational technologies into instruction.
  
• Experience delivering training tailored to the needs of the diplomatic community.
