Job summary

Houchens Ace Hardware in Portland, TN is seeking a Store Associate to support daily store operations and provide excellent customer service. You will help open/close the store, act as Manager on Duty when needed, and coordinate activities with the store team to ensure smooth operations.

The role requires basic retail experience, HS diploma or GED, and proficiency with store software. A valid driver's license is preferred. This position reports to Store Manager.

Qualifications

• 6 months–1 year of retail experience.
• Technically proficient in computer systems and related software.
• Gather and analyze data and maintain accurate records.
• Take initiative, assume responsibility, and execute thoroughly.
• Interact with staff at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Open and/or close the store as dictated by schedule.
• In the absence of management staff, serve as Manager on Duty and direct the store team; handle cash, inventory, and policies.
• Resolve and/or report issues pertaining to the shift, including employee, customer, or product concerns.
• Enforce safety policies and serve as a safety role model.
• Perform other tasks as directed by supervision.

Reports to: Store Manager, Assistant Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

Upholds the Core Values as determined by the management team. Primary responsibility for all positions with Houchens Ace Hardware is to Amaze Every Customer Every Time. The Key Carrier is responsible for the overall direction of store associates and coordination of store operations in the absence of key store management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for opening and/or closing the store as dictated by schedule


• In the absence of management staff, serves as the \"Manager on Duty\" by directing the store team, and adhering to company directed policies and procedures as they relate to the store operations; receiving of merchandise, store opening and closing processes, cash register transactions, daily cash reconciliation, and inventory control.


• Resolve and/or report any issues pertaining the shift including employee, customer, product issues, etc.


• Enforce safety policies and procedures, and serves as role model for safety.


• Other assigned tasks as directed by Supervision

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) preferred.


• Minimum of 6 months-1 year of retail experience.


• Technically proficient in computer systems including related software


• Gather and analyze data and maintain accurate records.


• Take initiative, assume responsibility, and execute thoroughly.


• Interact with staff at all levels of the organization.


• Possess a valid driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with company’s insurance carrier’s standards.
