Job description

Transmodal is hiring an experienced logistics professional to become the primary U.S. contact and accountable service owner for two strategic importer accounts.

Compensation: $60,000 to $75,000 base salary, plus performance incentives tied to account retention and growth. Target total cash compensation is approximately $90,000 at plan.

ABOUT TRANSMODAL

Transmodal operates at the edge of physical and digital supply chains. We are a licensed U.S. customs broker and international freight forwarder. For over 35 years, we have helped U.S. importers manage complex programs by combining experienced people, integrated freight and customs operations, and technology.

THE ROLE

You will be the primary U.S. contact and accountable service owner for two related strategic accounts, including a large importer with multiple U.S. distribution centers.

Transmodal currently provides ocean freight, origin management, and customs brokerage for these accounts. The relationship is expanding to include a new origin consolidation program in Vietnam.

Our operations teams handle most of the execution. You own the customer outcome.

When an issue arises, you clarify the problem, bring in the right people, establish the next action and timing, keep the customer informed, and drive the issue through resolution. You will also help strengthen a repeatable account management model that can be applied to additional strategic customers over time.

This position reports to the Vice President, Operations and works closely with the Vice President, Growth & Strategy; Vice President, Customs & Compliance; Freight Operations; Pricing; Billing and Finance; Technology; our China and Vietnam origin teams; and key client stakeholders.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Serve as the primary U.S. contact for assigned strategic accounts and take ownership of customer questions and service issues from intake through resolution.
  • Coordinate shipment exceptions, customs questions, billing concerns, system and visibility issues, and other cross-functional matters.
  • Bring together the appropriate internal and origin teams, establish clear next steps, and ensure commitments are completed.
  • Identify the root causes behind recurring problems and work with the appropriate teams to correct them.
  • Represent the customer's U.S. requirements during the Vietnam origin consolidation implementation and maintain visibility into actions, decisions, risks, and open items.
  • Maintain the account plan, stakeholder map, escalation path, open-issue log, meeting cadence, and quarterly business reviews.
  • Monitor account health across service performance, volume, exception trends, response and resolution times, revenue, gross profit, and margin.
  • Keep customer activity, commitments, risks, and opportunities current in the CRM.
  • Identify retention risks early and qualify appropriate growth opportunities with Growth, Pricing, and Operations.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
During your first 90 days:
  • Develop a strong understanding of Transmodal's systems, workflows, reporting tools, services, and account management processes.
  • Build effective working relationships across Operations, Customs & Compliance, Growth & Strategy, Pricing, Billing and Finance, Technology, and leadership.
  • Develop direct working relationships with our China and Vietnam origin teams and understand their roles, workflows, and escalation paths.
  • Learn the client's organization, key stakeholders, distribution-center requirements, service expectations, communication preferences, and priorities.
  • Review the existing account plan, service history, issue and risk logs, performance reporting, business review materials, and Vietnam implementation status.
  • Transition into day-to-day ownership of the relationship without disrupting service.
  • The customer has a knowledgeable and accountable U.S. contact who communicates proactively and follows through.
  • Internal and origin teams coordinate effectively around clear priorities, responsibilities, and escalation paths.
  • Service issues are resolved promptly and recurring problems decline because root causes are identified and corrected.
  • The Vietnam origin consolidation program consistently meets U.S. distribution-center requirements and customer expectations.
  • Service and financial health are visible and reviewed regularly so issues are addressed before they become larger problems.
  • The customer relationship is retained and appropriate expansion opportunities are identified, qualified, and advanced.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • At least 4 years of account management, key account management, or customer-facing operations experience with an international freight forwarder, NVOCC, customs broker, or import logistics provider.
  • Experience serving as the primary customer contact for a complex importer, shipper, or strategic logistics account.
  • Working knowledge of ocean import freight and U.S. customs brokerage.
  • Familiarity with origin management or consolidation and logistics technology or visibility systems.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly, professionally, and confidently across customers, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Strong follow-through. You track open items, close loops, and keep customers informed without being asked.
  • Sound commercial judgment, including an understanding of volume, revenue, gross profit, margin, and relationship risk.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively across internal teams, customers, vendors, and overseas offices.
  • Ability to work Eastern Time business hours and occasionally participate in early-morning or evening meetings with teams in Asia.
  • Authorization to work in the United States. Transmodal is unable to provide employment sponsorship for this position.
  • A college degree is not required. Relevant industry experience, judgment, ownership, and communication ability matter most.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Experience with one or more of the following is helpful, but not required:

  • Quarterly business reviews
  • KPIs and service-level agreements
  • Logistics visibility or warehouse management systems
  • Growing existing customer relationships
COMPENSATION

Base salary of $60,000 to $75,000, depending on experience and qualifications, plus performance incentives tied to account retention and growth.

Target total cash compensation is approximately $90,000 at plan, with additional upside based on portfolio performance and growth. Variable compensation is not guaranteed. Full incentive-plan details will be shared during the interview process.
