Job description

The Pet Vet on Patton is an animal veterinary care facility located in Asheville, North Carolina. We are a full-service animal hospital providing veterinary care to dogs and cats and offer services including preventive care, dental, pharmacy, hospitalization, surgery, recovery, and both dog and cat boarding. Position: Kennel Manager

The Kennel Manager is responsible for providing a clean, efficient, and healthy environment for the animals being treated or boarded at the hospital. A day in the life of a Kennel Manager includes:

  1. Ensuring the cleanliness of the hospital, including kennel area, runs, treatment area, and outside grounds.
  2. Feeding hospitalized animals and boarders.
  3. Creating kennel staff schedules.
  4. Scheduling and hosting frequent kennel staff meetings.
  5. Monitoring and recording important information about the animals’ conditions, behavior, and habits (elimination, eating, etc.).
  6. Walking animals three times a day and ensuring pets in DayCare receive playtime at least 3 times daily.
  7. Notifying the Doctor or a Veterinary Technician/Assistant of unusual medical or behavioral problems.
  8. Maintaining laundry throughout the day and keeping the laundry area neat.
  9. Monitoring and maintaining the kennel inventory, including food, cleaning supplies, and laundry supplies.
  10. Onboarding and training kennel staff, ongoing staff management, and leadership.
  11. Performing other duties as assigned to assist the Doctor, Receptionist, and Veterinary Technicians/Assistants in the smooth operation of the clinic and care of clients.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Flexible schedule including some weekend/holiday shifts.
  • Computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong communication skills, good judgment, and stress management abilities.
  • Physical and mental capacity to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
  • Previous experience as a kennel assistant; management experience is preferred but not required.
