Job summary

The City of Redlands, CA is seeking a Kennel Attendant to help maintain a safe, clean, and caring environment for shelter animals. You will assist with daily care, feeding, cleaning kennels, and supporting animal health tasks.

Under supervision, you will support Animal Services Officers and may guide volunteers. A high school diploma and the ability to obtain an Euthanasia Certificate within 9 months are required, with physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs and frequent animal interaction.

Qualifications

• Minimum six months of experience in animal care, custodial duties, or customer service.
• Experience working directly with animals is preferred.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid Euthanasia Certificate within 9 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain animal kennels and surrounding areas, including floors and hallways.
• Feed, water, and provide enrichment to animals.
• Assist veterinarians and Animal Services Officers with vaccinations and kennel placement.
• Inspect animals for signs of sickness and disease.
• Maintain calm, positive interactions with the public and volunteers.

As a Kennel Attendant, you’ll help provide a safe, clean, and caring environment for animals while giving them the attention and daily care they need. If you’re dependable, compassionate, and enjoy working hands-on with animals, we’d love to have you on our team.

Under supervision, maintains sanitary conditions of the animal shelter, provides care for animals, and assists Animal Services Officers. May provide direction to temporary staff or volunteers.

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Cleans and maintains animal kennels and surrounding areas including floors and hallways;
• Maintains inventory and notifies supervisor of any supplies that are required;
• Assists Animal Health Technician, Veterinarian, and Animals Control Officers with vaccinations of animals and kennel placement;
• Feeds, waters and provides enrichment to animals;
• Inspects animals for sign of sickness and disease;
• Maintains effective and positive relations with the public and other agencies;
• Provides direction to volunteers or temporary staff; and

• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Experience:

• A minimum of six months of work experience involving animal care, custodial duties, or customer service.
• Experience working directly with animals is preferred.

Education:

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Licenses and Certificates:

• Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid Euthanasia Certificate within 9 months of hire date.

Special Requirements:

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 50 lbs.;
• Exposure to heat, noise, outdoors, odors, vibration, confining workspace, and chemicals; Constant exposure to animals.
• Ability to travel to different sites and locations.
