Job summary

Nature of Work

Cleans and sanitizes animal care kennels and cages in accordance with instructions provided by supervisor. May be assigned to provide limited care to animals housed in local animal shelter. Such animal care may include feeding, walking, exercising, grooming, cleaning, or other tasks related to animal care.

Supervised By

Police department supervisor; kennel coordinator, or other person designated to oversee the operations of the regional animal shelter.

• Ability to exert the energy necessary to scrub an animal cage or holding area
• Ability to engage in lifting objects up to 20 lbs
• Ability to engage in repetitive motion such as that normally used to clean, mop or scrub
• Ability to twist and turn, bend and kneel in a manner consistent with normal cleaning, mopping or scrubbing activities

Working Conditions

Workers in this position may be subjected to:

• unpleasant smells or other odors associated with animals or cleaning materials
• the sight and sound of injured animals
• hot and cold environmental temperatures
• humid or poor air quality
• wet conditions
