Job description

Overview

A warm family who currently resides in Darien, Connecticut, but is relocating permanently to Greenwich, CT, is seeking a loving Nanny/Family Assistant for their sweet 18-month-old son. Mom is a stay-at-home parent, while Dad works in New York City. The family describes their home as safe, warm, loving, and casual and is looking for someone who will work collaboratively with Mom while also being comfortable caring for their son independently.

Their son is a sweet, smiley, curious, and bright toddler who loves playing and reading. His days typically include a class, free play, playground time, outings or errands. The family does not use screen time and takes an affectionate, hands‑on approach to parenting, with gentle guidance rather than a severe or overly disciplinary style.

This is a blended Nanny/Family Assistant position, with approximately 65% of the role focused on childcare and 35% on household support. The family would love someone who is highly engaged with their son; playing with him, reading, getting on his level, attending classes and outings, and closely supervising him, while naturally transitioning to family assistant responsibilities when Mom is spending time with him.

The ideal candidate is calm, but affectionate and genuinely loves children. The family prefers someone who is comfortable taking direction and following their lead while still offering thoughtful suggestions and proactively raising any safety concerns. They especially value a nanny who is hands‑on rather than sitting on the sidelines during classes, playground visits, and activities.

Start Date: ASAP

Schedule: Ideally 30 hours a week, willing to go down to 25 hours or above 30, but would be under 40 hours a week. Monday–Friday; family is flexible within approximately 8:00/9:00 a.m.–3:00/4:00/5:00 p.m., depending on the agreed schedule. Guaranteed hours will be based on the final schedule.

Note: Additional hours are available periodically for dinners out, and there may be opportunities for increased hours as the family grows.

  • Provide attentive, loving, and developmentally appropriate care for the family's 1.5-year-old son

  • Engage actively in play, reading, music, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, playground time, and age‑appropriate enrichment

  • Accompany or independently take the child to classes, activities, playdates, parks, library programs, and outings

  • Research and suggest new activities, classes, and playdate opportunities

  • Maintain a highly safety‑conscious approach and proactively communicate potential safety concerns

  • Support the family's affectionate, hands‑on parenting style

  • Prepare simple, healthy meals and snacks for the child

  • Assist with family food preparation and cooking as time permits

  • Complete children's laundry and select parents' laundry

  • Assist with ironing, steaming, and wardrobe organization as needed

  • Maintain organization of the child's play areas, toys, clothing, and belongings

  • Help organize closets, pantry, refrigerator, and household storage areas

  • Keep track of household supplies and communicate when items need to be replenished

  • Complete grocery and pharmacy runs and occasional personal errands such as dry‑cleaning pickup

  • Assist with online orders, returns, packages, and shipping as needed

  • Empty the dishwasher and assist with kitchen cleanup

  • Take out diaper garbage and complete general household resets

  • Clean up after the child and his meals

  • Assist with light household tidying as time permits
