Job summary

Diocese of Joliet Catholic Schools is seeking a Part-Time Substitute Teacher for K-8 at St. Mary Catholic School, Plano. The substitute will follow the absent teacher's plans, maintain Catholic school standards, and promote faith-based learning throughout the day.

The role is part-time, unbenefited, with the position available August 2026. Candidates should hold Illinois PEL or Substitute License and a bachelor's in Elementary Education; Catholic practice is preferred for religion instruction.

Qualifications

• Requires active educator licensure or substitute license as per Diocese policy.
• Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or related field.
• Practicing Catholic preferred but not mandatory for theology teaching.
• Prior teaching experience in elementary/secondary settings preferred.
• Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learners.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a positive role model and promote Catholic teachings.
• Create a faith-focused, safe learning environment in the classroom.
• Differentiate instruction to meet learning needs.
• Implement the absent teacher's plans and document progress.
• Leave detailed notes for the absent teacher and respond to parents when needed.
• Utilize technology to enhance lessons and classroom activities.
• Supervise students during school activities and transport-related times.
• Collaborate with principal and staff on classroom issues.
