Job summary

The Reading Specialist at York County Libraries will work with kindergarten through eighth grade students in small groups to raise literacy to grade level or higher. This part-time, contingent role is in York City School District and requires PA Reading Specialist certification.

Schedule is 15 hours per week, Monday through Friday with specific school-day availability, August 2026 through May 2027 (not to exceed 174 instructional days). Some duties include progress monitoring and data recording.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
• PA Reading Specialist Certificate required.
• Knowledge of best practice literacy concepts.
• Must obtain required clearances (PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal History, FBI, Act 168, Mandated Reporter).

Responsibilities

• Instruct small group literacy lessons for K-8 students.
• Assist with presentation of grade-level curriculum.
• Maintain accurate records of student contacts and progress.
• Collect and analyze progress using screening (DIBELS) and formative assessments.
• Support emotional needs of students and provide attendance at professional development.
