Job summary

Visitation Catholic Church Kansas City seeks a Math Specialist to strengthen K–8 mathematics instruction through teacher coaching, data analysis, and curriculum development. The role partners with school leadership, STREAM Director, and Literacy Specialist to build a culture of mathematical thinking and student achievement.

The position emphasizes aligning curricula, supporting Algebra I readiness, and facilitating professional development.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent in mathematics, curriculum and instruction, elementary education, or related field.
• At least five years of successful K–8 teaching experience.
• Experience using student data to plan instruction and interventions.
• Strong knowledge of K–8 mathematics, assessment, and differentiation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and monitor K–8 mathematics goals with school leadership.
• Align curriculum and expectations across grade levels.
• Support consistent implementation of Visitation’s adopted math curriculum.
• Prepare students for high school mathematics and Algebra I.
• Promote rigorous instruction, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving.
• Provide non-evaluative coaching through planning, modeling, co-teaching, observation, and reflection.
• Help teachers design engaging, data-informed lessons.
• Support research-based practices, including Building Thinking Classrooms.
• Facilitate professional development and teacher collaboration.
• Coordinate screenings, diagnostic assessments, and progress monitoring.
• Analyze data to identify student strengths and learning gaps; lead data meetings and support interventions.
• Collaborate with teachers, families, and the Student Support Team.
• Collaborate with school leadership and the STREAM Director to promote mathematical thinking.
• Connect with local Catholic high schools to support student readiness.
• Maintain Visitation’s Math Hub and support family engagement opportunities.
• Participate in and help facilitate monthly Math Specialist PLC meetings.
• Mentor designated partner schools during the 2026–27 school year.
• Assist with communication and documentation of program impact.
