Job summary

Andover Public Schools seeks a Physical Education teacher for elementary grades K-5 to implement the district curriculum and collaborate with staff. The role includes assessing student performance and reporting to parents, and contributing to program improvements.

Candidates should hold the appropriate PE credentials and have experience in diverse instructional strategies within elementary settings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's and/or Master's in Physical Education required.
• Must have certification and experience teaching Physical Education K-5.
• Undergraduate courses in motor development and motor training, physiology, kinesiology, anatomy.
• Courses in First Aid and CPR recommended/required.
• Experience with prevention and care of athletic injuries preferred.
• Understanding of human growth and development.
• Knowledge of a variety of instructional strategies and techniques.
• Familiarity with motor and physical fitness testing and assessment.
• Experience teaching Elementary K-5 PE.
• Strong classroom management skills.
• Knowledge of Adventure Based Physical Education desirable.
• Knowledge of Dance desirable.
• Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment.

Responsibilities

• Implement curriculum established for the grade level.
• Work cooperatively with other Physical Education Teachers to implement the program.
• Work cooperatively with other staff members at the school.
• Communicate as needed with school guidance counselors, parents and administrators.
• Assess and report student performance to parents.
• Assess and report program effectiveness.
• Recommend improvements for the program.
• Recommend scheduling and facility needs.
• Assist in preparing budgets and inventory.
