Description

The New Standard Academy is seeking a dedicated and passionate K–3 Reading Foundations Teacher to provide targeted reading instruction to early elementary students. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of foundational literacy skills and evidence-based instructional strategies that support reading development in young learners. This position will work closely with classroom teachers, interventionists, and instructional leaders to ensure all students are on track to read proficiently by the end of third grade.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver small-group and/or whole-group reading instruction focusing on foundational literacy skills (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension).
  • Use data-driven instruction to identify student needs and provide targeted interventions.
  • Support the implementation of a structured literacy approach grounded in the Science of Reading.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to align reading instruction with grade-level standards and curriculum.
  • Administer formal and informal reading assessments and progress monitoring tools.
  • Develop and maintain individualized reading plans for struggling readers.
  • Participate in MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) meetings and contribute to decisions about student support.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and strategies for supporting literacy development at home.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development focused on reading instruction, literacy intervention, and data analysis.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and instructional activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Michigan Teacher Certification

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques

Knowledge of instructional technology and its applications in teaching

Willingness to work with other teachers to promote interdisciplinary studies

Skill in interpersonal relations with pupils, parents, teachers, staff and the general public

Outstanding references from current and former supervisors

College transcripts, three references, and a copy of appropriate credentials should also be submitted during the application process.
