Job summary

Wissahickon Charter School seeks a dedicated Assistant Teacher for grades K-2 to join our Lower School team in Philadelphia. The role includes classroom and recess duties and aims to improve both academic and social-emotional outcomes for students citywide.

Responsibilities include supporting lessons, leading small groups, and communicating with families. The position runs 8am–4pm on school days and offers employer-paid health benefits.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; higher degree preferred.
• Urban school experience preferred for K-2.
• Commitment to learning, equity and bias-aware practice.
• All FBI and PA clearances required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the lead teacher during lessons.
• Lead students in small breakout groups as guided.
• Instruct students one-on-one when needed.
• Communicate daily with the lead teacher.
• Support classroom management and discipline follow-up.
• Substitute teach when the lead teacher is out; cover specialists where needed.
• Participate in outdoor Forest School activities.
• Communicate with parents via school platforms.
• Uphold Wissahickon Charter School rules in all interactions.
• Complete classroom administrative duties as needed.
