Job summary

Point Quest Group is seeking a Teacher for the Visually Impaired to support K-12 students with visual impairments in Kane County, IL. The role focuses on specialized instruction, evaluating students, developing IEPs, and facilitating access to Braille, assistive tech, and mobility skills.

Applicants must hold an Illinois PEL with the V I endorsement, a Bachelor's degree, and pass background checks. The position offers full-time hours with a competitive hourly rate and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Current Illinois (PEL) Professional Educator License with Teacher of Students Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired Endorsement.
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • DOJ/FBI Live Scan Background & TB Clearance required.
  • Proficiency in Braille reading and writing, and use of technological devices and optical aids.
  • Certification or background in orientation and mobility.
  • Knowledge of Braille, large print, and talking software technology.

Responsibilities

  • Student Evaluation & Assessment: Use criterion and norm-referenced tests to assess pupils' visual functioning, communication, motor, social, self-help, academic, vocational, and cognitive skills.
  • IEP Development: Create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) with measurable goals and objectives based on assessments, child development principles, and learning continuums.
  • Instruction & Integration: Teach specialized skills, including braille, orientation and mobility, and use of visual aids; facilitate integration into regular education.
  • Curriculum & Consultation: Develop curriculum activities that align with objectives; provide resources to regular classroom teachers.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a positive learning environment, monitor progress, and adapt teaching strategies; prepare daily lesson plans.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Complete records and ensure compliance with state regulations and timelines; attend required meetings.
  • Physical & Mental Requirements: Maintain stamina and dexterity for classroom activities and data interpretation; work in various settings.
  • Additional Duties: Fulfill other assigned responsibilities as needed.
