Job summary

Birch Agency is seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to support students in the Moncks Corner, SC area for the 2026–2027 school year. This full-time contract role offers 37.5 hours per week and an hourly starting pay of $50, based on experience.

The TVI will develop IEPs, conduct vision and learning media assessments, and adapt materials into accessible formats. Collaboration with teachers and families is essential to help students thrive in school and beyond.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Special Education, Education of the Visually Impaired, or related field.
• SC Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification or eligibility.
• Experience with students with visual impairments in a school setting preferred.
• Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and specialized instructional strategies.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and consultative vision services to students with visual impairments.
• Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs and vision-related goals.
• Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments as appropriate.
• Adapt instructional materials into accessible formats (Braille, large print, tactile graphics, assistive tech).
• Teach compensatory skills, assistive technology, orientation to educational materials, and independent living skills.
• Consult with teachers, staff, and families regarding accommodations and strategies to support student success.
• Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
