Job summary

New Paradigm For Education in Detroit is seeking a Certified School Counselor to support students’ academic, personal, and social development across our charter network.

You will provide individual and group counseling, classroom guidance, parent consultation, and academic planning while collaborating with families, teachers, and community partners to promote student achievement and well‑being in a diverse learning environment.

Qualifications

• Certified Michigan School Counselor
• Bachelor's degree in Guidance and/or School Counseling (Masters preferred)
• Minimum of three years of teaching, counseling, or related experience with grades K-12 is highly preferred
• Experience using culturally affirming practices with diverse communities and strong relationship-building skills

Responsibilities

• Plan a balanced and comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program including curriculum, services, and support components
• Manage program resources and personnel as needed
• Advance and support the school developmental guidance and counseling program with high ethical and professional standards
• Conduct and coordinate structured group lessons to deliver guidance curriculum effectively
• Guide students and parents to plan and monitor personal and social development without bias
• Consult with school personnel, parents, and community members to promote understanding of student development and environment
• Adhere to legal, ethical, and professional standards related to assessment
• Interpret standardized test results to guide students’ goals and plans
