Job summary

Kanawha County Schools seeks a JV Assistant Boys Basketball Coach for the 2026-2027 season within the district’s athletics program. The role supports the head coach, develops rapport with staff, and drives skill development for student-athletes in a competitive high school setting.

Candidates must hold WV teaching certification or WVDE permit/substitute permit, WVSSAC certification, and a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

Valid West Virginia teaching certification or WVDE permit or substitute permit.
High school diploma or GED.
WVSSAC certification required.

Responsibilities

Develops rapport with coaching staff within the school.
Organizes coaching staff and communicates with participants, parents, faculty, officials, and opponents.
Designs quality organization of practice sessions and pre-season planning.
Handles athletic injuries and cares for equipment; supervises players.
Attends league, conference and WVSSAC meetings and follows policies.
Completes WVSSAC Training & Certification Program and KCS concussion awareness training.
Keeps certification current and adheres to end-of-season procedures.
