Job summary

Dallas County is seeking a Juvenile Residential Officer to provide direct supervision of youths in a 24-hour residential facility in Dallas, TX. The role includes counseling, crisis response, and enforcing facility rules to ensure safety.

Responsibilities include coordinating activities, transporting youths, and performing back-up duties such as medications and intake/discharges. A high school diploma and valid TX driver’s license are required, with certifications and background checks completed

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 1 year of related experience.
• Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
• Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Must pass extensive background investigation and mandatory drug testing.
• Must be at least 21 years of age and complete Juvenile Academy or meet PREA/Ethics standards for the position.
• Must be physically able to restrain and manage youth using approved handling techniques.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision to youths in a 24-hour residential facility to ensure health and safety in accordance with policies and standards.
• Offer individual and group counseling to youths to promote responsibility and alternatives.
• Make critical judgments during crises or dangerous situations when supervisor is unavailable; inform supervisor and document actions.
• Discipline youths by enforcing facility rules and documenting behavior for appropriate personnel.
• Act as back-up to staff, handle duties such as medication administration, transport, intake assessments or discharges, and perform required restraints per TJJD rules.
• Conduct inspections, rounds and drills including room checks and searches of youths.
• Transport youths to and from appointments.
• Coordinate daily educational and entertaining program activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
