Job summary

King County Superior Court seeks a Juvenile Probation Counselor Supervisor for its 24/7 Screening Unit. The role supervises professional and support staff providing probation services to youths and families, with a focus on caseload management, data reporting, and program development.

The position is full-time, in-person at the Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center in Seattle, normally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.

King County Superior Court is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Juvenile Probation Counselor Supervisor for its 24/7 Screening Unit.

The Court is Washington state’s largest general jurisdiction trial court, handling civil matters, domestic matters, felony criminal cases, juvenile matters, and appeals from courts of limited jurisdiction. Located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, King County Superior Court is nationally recognized for innovation. This position is responsible for supervising, coordinating and guiding professional and support staff in providing a variety of probation services to troubled juveniles and their families. The incumbent will play a critical role in Superior Court’s ability to serve the community.

Work location:

This position is located at the King County Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center (CCFJC) located at 1211 E. Alder in Seattle. This position requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.

Work schedule and terms:

This position is hourly (overtime-eligible) and subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position working a standard 40-hour workweek. The workweek is normally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The following duties are not intended to represent the entire functional capacity of the position at the task level.

• Supervise professional counselors as well as support staff.
• Be available during off hours to respond to emergencies; including filling coverage vacancies.
• Complete the monthly coverage calendar to ensure all shifts have assigned staff to work.
• Supervise, review, evaluate and coordinate daily operations such as caseload management, electronic social files and computer systems.
• Lead and participate in organization change, including development and implementation of new processes and collaboration in support of innovative efforts.
• Act as resource to assist counselors with complex cases.
• Serve as Quality Assurance Specialist for Positive Achievement Change Tool (PACT) and Case Management Assessment Process (CMAP).
• Develop and oversee procedures to ensure effective unit operations.
• Coordinate and monitor treatment contracts.
• Maintain liaison with courts, law enforcement, schools and community agencies.
• Provide orientation, training and evaluate lower-level staff.
• Gather and analyze data and prepare complex correspondence and reports.
• Provide input for departmental/divisional policy affecting program.
• Develop and supervise special projects.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in human or social services, social work, psychology or a closely related field and four years' experience in counseling, casework planning, and providing social services for juvenile offenders. A Master's degree in social services or criminal justice and previous supervisory experience are preferred.

Working knowledge of Case Management Assessment Process (CMAP), Positive Achievement Change Tool (PACT) and motivational interviewing is preferred. Knowledge of court operations procedures and processes. Demonstrated ability to work with youth and families from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Must have knowledge of counseling theories and methods, and skill in interviewing techniques. Knowledge of community resources, adolescent and child development. Experience in computer software applications including word processing, and database management.

Special requirements:

Finalists must successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background investigation, a polygraph examination and reference check. A valid Washington State Driver's license or ability to travel throughout the County by alternate means is required.
