Job summary

Volusia Sheriff's Office seeks a Juvenile Detention Screener to handle detention screening and intake of arrested juveniles at the Volusia Family Resource Center. This role focuses on safety and accurate documentation.

Responsibilities include completing assessments, maintaining JJIS records, coordinating referrals, and supporting partners. A 24/7 schedule and overtime may be required.

Applicants should have an associate degree or equivalent experience and pass background checks.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Comparable amount of education and experience may substitute the minimum requirements.
• Must be able to support staffing needs for a 24/7 operation, including holidays, weekends, and mandatory overtime.
• May be required to successfully complete and pass required skills testing.

Responsibilities

• Provides detention screening and intake to juveniles who are arrested and presented to the Volusia Family Resource Center.
• Ensure completion of Detention Risk Assessment Instrument (DRAI), Suicide Risk Assessment, State Attorney recommendations, and MAYSI.
• Provides documentation into the Juvenile Justice Information Systems (JJIS).
• Maintains JJIS data for charges, demographics, education, and alerts or special needs.
• Makes referrals identified by MAYSI.
• Contacts victims, family members, and community to ensure public safety and identify needs for arrestees.
• Develops and maintains relationships with judicial, law enforcement, schools, and community organizations.
• Ensures documentation of juveniles at the Juvenile Assessment Center for longer than six hours from intake to departure.
• Makes recommendations to the state attorney’s office concerning judicial or non-judicial alternatives.
• Attends work on a regular basis and adheres to all applicable laws and policies.
