Job summary

Dallas County in Texas seeks a shift supervisor for a detention facility. You will supervise 21-35 detention officers, assist in running programs, and ensure staffing aligns with licensing standards.

You will train and evaluate staff, coordinate activities, conduct searches, document reports, respond to emergencies, and may perform duties such as transporting youths or administering medications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a job-related field.
• Two (2) years of work-related experience.

Responsibilities

• Trains, motivates, evaluates, and supervises staff; issues work assignments; and maintains time and attendance.
• Develops, coordinates, and evaluates daily educational, therapeutic and/or recreational programs/activities.
• Functions in a supervisory capacity and assumes management responsibilities in the absence of the manager, operating assigned shifts effectively and efficiently and maintaining the proper staff to client ratio for coverage according to licensing standards.
• Conducts inspections, drills, dorm/cell searches and physical searches of youths when contraband is suspected.
• Prepares and completes reports and other documentation in accordance with applicable standards, policies and procedures.
• Makes critical and sound decisions during emergencies or potentially dangerous situations; conducts group intervention crisis sessions; and informs supervisor of concerns as warranted.
• Serves as back-up to staff and assumes all duties as necessary, i.e. administering medications, transporting youths to appointments, processing intake assessments or discharges, disciplining youths, and chasing or restraining youths.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
