Job summary

Abraxas Youth and Family Services in Morgantown, PA, seeks compassionate Youth Development Specialists to direct daily activities of juvenile males in our program, using behavioral management principles. You will exercise sound judgment in crisis situations and help keep clients safe.

No experience required for many positions; paid training provided. You will oversee activities, ensure safety, document interventions, and collaborate with the team to support youths on their path to independence.

• Direct the daily activities of juvenile males in programming using behavioral management principles.
• Oversee implementation of activities to support the daily schedule on units at the facility.
• Ensure standard operating procedures, program policies, and client interventions are followed.
• Interact with and supervise clients during daily activities to ensure safety and security.
• Provide effective on‑the‑job training to Youth Development Team Leaders.
• Observe client behavior and intervene appropriately; document changes as needed.
• Process intakes and screen clients according to program policy.
• Facilitate and document various groups/meetings.
• Administer medication or supervise self-administration when necessary.
• Support the Abraxas philosophy and Seven Key Principles of care.

What You’ll Do

As a Youth Development Specialist, you will direct the daily activities of juvenile males in programming utilizing acceptable behavioral management principles. Must have the ability to exercise independent judgment in crisis situations.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Oversee the implementation of activities which support the daily schedule on one or more units at the facility.
• Ensure standard operating procedures, program policy and procedures, and the client interventions process are implemented appropriately.
• Interact with and supervise clients during daily activities in a manner that ensures their safety and security.
• Provide effective people security (e.g., headcounts, room checks, client movement).
• Provide effective on‑the‑job training to Youth Development Team Leaders.
• Observe client behavior and intervene appropriately.
• Process intakes and screen clients according to program policy.
• Facilitate and document various groups/meetings.
• Administer medication or supervise self‑administration of medication when necessary.
• Support the Abraxas philosophy and mission and promote the Seven Key Principles of care.
• Demonstrate appropriate use of Safe Crisis Management techniques and skills.
• Provide effective facility security including conducting headcounts, room checks and observing client movement.
• Observe activities and respond accordingly including emergency situations such as evacuation, CPR, or first aid.
• Follow policies and procedures of the program/facility.
• Provide for physical safety and care of clients who are under supervision.
• Report significant changes in the behavior, attitude, or physical condition of clients to higher‑level staff members.
• Comply with program/facility safety systems and building security.
• Adhere to departmental policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance with current departmental practices.
