Job summary

Tarrant County is seeking a Juvenile Detention Officer to escort detained youths between intra- and inter-location, de-escalate and counsel volatile residents, and maintain secure custody in a locked facility.

You will conduct searches, document incidents, assist with medical exams, supervise visits, and support safety protocols for both residents and staff. Prior experience with youth and relevant certifications are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Two (2) years experience in a related field.
• One (1) year of experience working with children.
• Texas Juvenile Detention Officer certification.
• First Aid, CPR and Non-Violent restraint certifications.
• Valid driver license and automobile liability insurance.
• College degree may substitute for experience.
• Knowledge of State Juvenile Detention Standards; understanding of adolescent behavior and facility security.
• Proof of education required at new hire processing.

Responsibilities

• Escort detained juveniles inside and outside the facility to multiple locations.
• De-escalate volatile situations and counsel residents.
• Maintain secure custody and prevent escapes, assaults, and misconduct.
• Conduct searches and inventory of new referrals.
• Document incidents and restraints; testify in court when needed.
• Screen and monitor visits; distribute confidential information.
• Assist Medical Services during exams and treatments.
• Record non-routine events and disciplinary actions.
• Perform housekeeping duties including resident laundry.
