This position is located at New Hannover Juvenile Detention Center, a secure facility in Castle Hayne, NC. The mission is to provide committed juveniles with a safe, secure environment that fosters healthy decision-making and personal responsibility.
This is a third shift position, including working weekends and holidays, details of which will be discussed during the interview. This is a repost; previous applicants are still under consideration and do not need to reapply.
The main purpose of this role is to supervise direct care staff responsible for the safety and security of juveniles who are pre- or post-adjudicated, status offenders, or bound over to Superior Court. Responsibilities include assisting with hiring, training, assigning work, managing performance, and ensuring staff meet certification requirements and follow policies. The role involves close physical contact with juveniles, and decisions impact the safety of staff, employees, state property, and juveniles.

To qualify, applicants must demonstrate:
Management preferences include knowledge of facility operations, adolescent behavior, juvenile law, scheduling, and managerial experience.
Bachelor's degree with two years of relevant experience, or an associate degree with four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Specific requirements for Juvenile Justice Officer certification and training are also outlined.
