Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is seeking a Detention Case Manager to monitor juveniles under court-ordered house arrest and focus on prevention, reintegration, and empowerment.

Under limited supervision, you will perform daily compliance checks, conduct pre-release assessments, identify alternatives to detention, and prepare comprehensive reports for court officials that emphasize family-focused interventions.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree and related experience.
• Knowledge of the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) and DJJ’s mission.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including court report submissions.
• Ability to enhance and work with community collaborative initiatives.
• Ability to facilitate and broker services for juveniles, their families and victims.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a DCM for juveniles pre/post adjudication placed under court ordered house arrest (i.e. electronic monitor).
• Performs daily compliance checks that are monitored thru the web-based surveillance system and regular in-person contact.
• Conducts pre-release investigations by administering an assessment of the juvenile.
• Identifies the most appropriate alternative to detention.
• Formulate a plan for the juvenile to remain in the community in lieu of detention.
• Develops a comprehensive report for court officials that emphasis family-focused interventions and positive reinforcement.
• Provides status updates and staffing notes to the assigned County Case Manager/Intensive Supervision Officer and/or supervisor.
• Maintains case files to include JJMS data entry in accordance with Agency Policy and Procedures.
• Provides alternatives to prosecution or further detainment by encouraging a least restrictive environment and reducing punitive practices.
• Promotes community safety and restorative justice practices to address repair of harm/compensation to victim and community.
