Job summary

Allen County is seeking a dedicated Special Deputy/Bailiff for the Juvenile Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This part-time role supports court security, bailiff duties, first response, and transport duties as required.

Applicants must have at least two years of policing/corrections or military background, certification readiness in Defensive Tactics, OC spray, and firearms, and possess a valid driver's license and CPR/AED. The position requires able to handle stressful situations with discretion.

Qualifications

Two years of policing, corrections and/or military training/experience.
Ability to become certified in Defensive Tactics, OC Spray and Electroshock Weapons.
Ability to complete and maintain Firearms Qualifications.
valid Driver’s License to assist with transporting juveniles.
CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
Ability to be trained and sworn as a Special Deputy for the Allen County Sheriff's Department.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills; knowledge of the Criminal Justice System.
Ability to write detailed reports and handle confidential information.

Responsibilities

First responder to threats; inspect entrants; operate X-ray and detectors; perform pat downs.
Provide security and bailiff duties in courtrooms; notify locations and transport juveniles.
Monitor distress panels; respond to conflicts; assist with medical emergencies and 911.
Monitor buildings with video surveillance; greet visitors and direct to appropriate staff.
Support probation officers; document contacts and supervise community service.
Enter data into Quest; issue release forms; manage confidential records.
