Government of the Virgin Islands, Superior Court, is seeking a Clerical Support worker in the Jury Management Division. The position assists the jury manager with preparing and mailing jury questionnaires and summons to prospective jurors, checks in jurors, and maintains records.

Responsibilities include assisting in the jury assembly room, preparing forms and reports, and supporting juror orientation. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma and 6 months to 2 years of related court clerical

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school and experience (six months to two years) preferably related to court clerical or legal work.
  • Knowledge of court procedures and policies relating to juror qualification, selection, and use.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; including filing procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to make arithmetical computations rapidly and accurately.
  • Ability to maintain a variety of records and prepare reports from such records.
  • Ability to interpret court policies and procedures pertaining to the qualifications, selection, and use of prospective jurors.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public and others.
  • Ability to type 50 wpm.
  • Skill in the operation of a typewriter, personal computer and relevant software, and other standard office equipment.

  • Maintain records of jurors who serve, are disqualified, or deferred; verify summons against attendance list; prepare routine correspondence, lists, and reports.
  • Assist in the payment of jury fees and expenses when required.
  • Prepare and process juror exit questionnaires and certificates of appreciation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Job description

This is responsible clerical work in a Jury Management Division of the Superior Court.

Work involves spending a majority of the time in assisting a jury manager in preparing and mailing jury questionnaires and summons to prospective jurors, checking jurors in, and maintaining appropriate records. Work includes assisting in the jury assembly room to receive prospective jurors and preparing forms and reports. Work is performed under the supervision of a jury manager and is reviewed through reports and observations of results.

  • Prepares and sorts jury questionnaires and summons for prospective jurors.
  • Processes deferments using standard guidelines; responds to juror's inquiries/requests in person, by telephone, or e-mail; enters data on computer.

  • Assists in juror orientation; prepares and distributes juror badges.
