The Jury Management Department consists of two employees – a Jury Management Coordinator and the Jury Staff Assistant. The department manages juror needs for Spokane Superior, District and Municipal Courts. This position serves as a vital part of the judicial system by providing essential administrative and operational support to the Jury Management Department. This position functions as the primary point of contact for both prospective and active jurors, ensuring the smooth execution of all processes related to juror summoning, qualification, orientation, and payment. The Jury Staff Assistant processes returned qualification questionnaires, evaluates requests for excusal or postponement, and updates all relevant information within the Court’s Jury Management System. The role requires responding to a high volume of inquiries via phone, email, and in‑person visits, as well as assisting with juror check‑in and registration on reporting days. The Jury Staff Assistant delivers clear and concise presentations on jury service, court procedures, and expectations, and coordinates the daily logistics of jury panels by assigning jurors to specific courtrooms and managing their movement throughout the courthouse. They prepare documentation for jurors’ employers, liaise with judges, attorneys, and courtroom staff to ensure timely delivery of panels for voir dire, and prepare and secure all necessary documentation for impaneled juries while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy. The Jury Staff Assistant is also responsible for resolving juror concerns with empathy and tact, escalating complex situations to the Jury Manager when necessary.
This position performs a variety of basic and routine clerical duties such as keyboarding or typing forms, letters, record entries, and other material, answers telephones, processes documents and records, extracts and compiles records or data, responds to inquiries concerning services and procedures, maintains and monitors established record keeping, collects and receipts fees, filing, and data base systems in support of office or unit operations. The position allocated to this class differs from the Administrative Support Specialist 1 classification by the routine nature of the clerical duties. Duties are recurring and accomplished by following established work methods or procedures. Within established guidelines, independently organizes, prioritizes and initiates work activities. Decision making authority (discretion) is limited to choice of appropriate methods or procedures. Guidance is provided in new or unusual situations. Deviation from established methods, procedures, or guidelines requires approval. Work is periodically reviewed to verify compliance with policies, procedures and standards.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Three (3) years of general office or related specialty work experience. May substitute coursework or training in office practices, secretarial science or other related areas for up to two (2) years of the required work experience.
