Job summary

City of Buffalo is seeking Laborer I/II to assist in the operation and maintenance of equipment at a municipal sewage treatment plant. The role focuses on mechanical tasks, monitoring gauges, and supporting the plant crew in a priority, procedure-driven environment.

Incumbents follow established operating procedures, perform routine maintenance, and keep daily records. The position requires basic technical aptitude and the ability to work in varied weather conditions.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED, or equivalency.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate and repair plant equipment.
• Ability to read gauges and meters accurately.
• Safety-conscious with ability to work in adverse weather.

Responsibilities

• Assist in operating equipment and machinery in a sewage treatment plant.
• Monitor gauges, meters, control panels and SCADA system.
• Tend digestion tanks, raw feed boxes, lime slakers and related equipment.
• Repair and overhaul pumps, blowers, conveyors, valves and other mech/electrical gear.
• Oil, grease, and clean machinery; maintain plant units and logs.
