Summary of Responsibilities

Hackley School seeks a dedicated and enthusiastic Athletic Coach to guide and mentor junior varsity high school athletes in either squash or lacrosse. The candidate will foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character development.

Available Positions

• Winter – Junior Varsity Girls Squash
• Spring – Junior Varsity Boys Lacrosse
• Spring – Junior Varsity Girls Lacrosse

Reporting Structure

The Athletic Coaches report to the Director of Athletics within the Athletics Department.

Specific Responsibilities

• Coaching and Instruction: Lead practice sessions focused on skills, techniques, and strategies appropriate for junior varsity levels; provide feedback; develop game plans; inspire passion for the sport.
• Player Development and Mentorship: Serve as a positive role model; ensure athlete safety; teach sportsmanship, discipline, and respect; support student‑athletes in balancing academics and athletics.
• Team Management: Organize and manage teams; maintain communication with students, parents, administration; coordinate with the Director of Athletics.
• Logistical Support: Assist with team travel, uniforms, scheduling; attend required meetings or training; help with equipment maintenance.
• Compliance and Safety: Ensure adherence to school and state regulations for safety, eligibility, and sportsmanship; hold current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification; complete required safety courses such as NFHS Concussion in Sports.
• Time Commitment: Junior Varsity positions Monday‑Friday, 3:30–4:30pm; game days finish later.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Prior coaching experience preferably in an independent private school at the Middle School JV or Varsity level.
• Strong understanding of the sport, including rules and strategies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build trusting relationships and create a positive team environment.
• Bachelor's degree preferred, particularly in education or related field.
• Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required.
• Must complete necessary coaching certifications such as NFHS certifications.
• Ability to pass background checks and meet employment requirements for a school setting.
• Availability for evening and weekend commitments, including travel for games.
