Job summary

MSIG USA is seeking a Junior Underwriter to service Excess Casualty risks nationwide, under corporate guidelines. You will review submissions, analyze financial factors, and apply pricing techniques while collaborating with brokers and clients to tailor insurance solutions.

This role emphasizes underwriting diligence, regulatory compliance, and cross-functional teamwork across Risk Engineering, Claims, and Marketing. Travel up to 20% may be required.

Qualifications

• High school degree (or GED) required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 1–2 years insurance experience preferred, including 2+ years in an Underwriting Assistant / Associate role or applicable industry experience.
• Knowledge of underwriting and rating principles, guides, policy forms, rating manuals and statutory regulations is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Effective negotiation skills; good organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Underwrites and services Excess Casualty risks within underwriting authority.
• Monitors underwriting results, premium and loss trends within assigned book of business.
• Reviews submissions to determine acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
• Performs all aspects of the underwriting process and due diligence including review and analysis of financial documents and individual risk factors.
• Applies appropriate pricing techniques according to company filings and state/bureau conformance.
• Works with brokers and clients to create customized insurance solutions.
• Documents accounts in accordance with regulatory and internal underwriting guidelines.
• Analyzes policy forms and endorsement requests from brokers.
• Assists in establishing and executing broker/client visits with other units to maintain/increase business.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary/Job Purpose:

The Junior Underwriter is responsible for underwriting and servicing Excess Casualty business on a nationwide basis in accordance with Corporate goals and objectives.

Essential Functions:

• Underwrites and services Excess Casualty risks within underwriting authority. Monitors underwriting results, premium and loss trends within assigned book of business.

Salary: The base pay range is $790,000.00 - 105,000.00 . Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
