Qualifications

• 10 to 12 years of commercial casualty underwriting experience.

• Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

MSIG USA is seeking an experienced Casualty Portfolio Manager to support underwriting standards and oversight for our casualty business. This role is a great fit for a seasoned underwriter who enjoys the technical side of the work and wants to contribute to how we underwrite across the book.

Reporting to the Head of Casualty, you will assist in maintaining casualty underwriting guidelines and authority frameworks, support underwriting quality reviews, and serve as a technical resource for underwriters. You will work closely with actuarial, claims, and underwriting leadership to help keep underwriting practices consistent and aligned with the company's risk appetite.

What You'll Do

Underwriting Guidelines and Authority

• Assist in developing and updating casualty underwriting guidelines, appetite statements, and class guidance as market conditions and exposures change.
• Assist in maintaining underwriting authority frameworks and referral protocols, and help communicate them to underwriting teams.
• Support leadership in translating company risk appetite into practical direction for underwriters.

Underwriting Quality and Portfolio Monitoring

• Participate in underwriting audits and peer reviews, evaluating file quality, pricing documentation, and adherence to guidelines and authority.
• Summarize review findings and share recommendations with underwriting leadership.
• Help monitor portfolio trends such as rate change, mix of business, and limits deployment, and flag areas that may need attention.

Technical Support and Referrals

• Review referred risks within your authority and provide technical guidance to underwriters on coverage, terms, and pricing.
• Stay current on emerging casualty issues, including social inflation, large verdict trends, and evolving liability exposures, and share insights with the team.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work with actuarial on rating tools, rate monitoring, and pricing guidance.
• Partner with claims to understand loss trends and help incorporate lessons learned into underwriting guidance.
• Provide underwriting input on forms, endorsements, and product updates.

Team Support

• Serve as a technical resource and mentor for less experienced underwriters.
• Help develop and deliver training on guidelines, coverage topics, and underwriting best practices.

What You Bring

Required

• 10 to 12 years of commercial casualty underwriting experience.
• Strong technical knowledge of casualty lines such as general liability, commercial auto, umbrella and excess, and related coverages.
• Familiarity with underwriting guidelines, authority structures, or underwriting audit processes.
• Solid understanding of pricing, coverage forms, and exposure analysis.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical topics to underwriters and leadership.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Preferred

• Experience in admitted, E&S casualty markets and captives
• Exposure to specialty casualty segments (for example construction, energy, environmental, or products liability).
• Professional designations such as CPCU, AU, or similar, or progress toward one.
• Comfort with data tools and underwriting platforms (Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar).

SALARY: The estimated salary range for this position is $200,000.00 - 235,000.00 per year. This is a good-faith assessment of the salary range for this position only. In determining the actual salary within this range, MSIG USA will consider a candidate’s relevant experience, location, and other job-related factors.
Salary: The base pay range is $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 . Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
