Job summary

Rokstone Construction Risk Underwriters LTD is seeking a Junior Underwriter to support underwriting excellence across the United States, with a focus on complex construction risks, risk assessment, and broker engagement.

You will work alongside experienced underwriters to evaluate new business, manage portfolios, and help develop tailored insurance solutions for multifamily, hospitality, and other complex projects in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Foundational knowledge of insurance principles and underwriting.
  • Industry qualifications or licences preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support technical underwriting activities including risk assessment and pricing analysis.
  • Assist in evaluating and underwriting new/renewal business within delegated authority.

  • Contribute to a profitable portfolio of construction risks.
  • Analyze submissions, loss history, and exposure data to inform decisions.

Role Summary

At Rokstone Construction Risk Underwriters, we specialize in delivering innovative insurance solutions for complex construction projects across the United States. As a Junior Underwriter, you will play a key role in supporting underwriting excellence through a combination of technical analysis, risk assessment, portfolio management, and broker engagement to help deliver profitable growth. This role offers exceptional exposure to specialty construction insurance, supporting multifamily housing, hospitality, student housing, senior living, mixed-use developments, and other complex construction projects. Working alongside experienced underwriting professionals, you will evaluate new business opportunities, identify emerging risks, support portfolio management initiatives, and contribute to underwriting strategies that drive long-term profitability and sustainable growth.

Role Responsibilities
  • Support technical underwriting activities including risk assessment, pricing analysis, and deal structuring.
  • Assist in the evaluation, selection, and underwriting of new and renewal business within delegated authority levels.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with approved retail and wholesale brokers to support business development objectives.
  • Contribute to the development and management of a profitable portfolio of construction risks.
  • Analyse submissions, financial information, loss history, and exposure data to support underwriting decisions.
  • Develop tailored insurance solutions that meet customer needs while protecting the interests of carrier partners.
  • Coordinate Loss Prevention and Risk Engineering services to enhance risk quality and portfolio performance.
  • Review loss trends, risk characteristics, catastrophe exposures, and portfolio performance metrics to identify opportunities and emerging concerns.
  • Assist with catastrophe exposure management, aggregation monitoring, and concentration analysis.
  • Monitor construction, insurance, and regulatory market developments impacting underwriting decisions and portfolio strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with all internal underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and carrier partner standards.
  • Support new business acquisition initiatives while providing excellent service to existing brokers and clients.
  • Collaborate closely with Underwriters, Risk Analysts, Claims, and Operations teams to achieve business objectives. Prepare underwriting reports, presentations and portfolio analysis to support management decision-making.
  • Undertake any additional duties as required.
Role Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Experience of insurance principles, underwriting practices, and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Previous experience within insurance, construction insurance, builders risk, property, casualty, or specialty lines underwriting preferred.
  • Completion of industry-recognised insurance qualifications or licences preferred.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to balance growth opportunities and risk selection.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the confidence to engage brokers, clients, and senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced underwriting environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
