Hatch Ltd. in Pittsburgh, PA invites applications for a Junior Tunnels Engineer. This role supports the Infrastructure group from our Pittsburgh office, with opportunities to contribute to global projects and collaborate across disciplines.

You will apply engineering principles to tunnel and underground structure design, collect data, prepare calculations and reports, and participate in site visits. Occasional travel and in-office collaboration are encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Roles at this level are filled by recent or soon to be university/college graduates with little or no professional experience but possessing relevant skills
  • Preferred bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil or structural engineering, or geotechnical or construction management from an ABET accredited university
  • Minimum of a cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering principles to provide efficient, effective, and economical technical solutions to tunnels and underground structures
  • Design underground infrastructure in accordance with quality objectives, regulations, laws, and standards
  • Collect, review, and analyze a variety of engineering data to meet engineering objectives
  • Prepare reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, inspection reports, designs, and calculations

Hatch is seeking a dynamic Junior Tunnels Engineer. Reporting to the Infrastructure group, you will support offices globally working from our Pittsburgh, PA office location.

As the successful candidate, you will:
  • Apply engineering principles to provide efficient, effective, and economical technical solutions to tunnels and underground structures
  • Design underground infrastructure in accordance with quality objectives, regulations, laws, and standards
  • Collect, review, and analyze a variety of engineering data to meet engineering objectives
  • Prepare reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, inspection reports, designs, and calculations
You bring to the role:
  • Interest in structural or geotechnical engineering
  • Experience with structural modeling software such as STAAD is preferred
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, Navisworks, and ArcGIS is a plus
  • Willingness to travel and work onsite (including remote locations)
  • Previous co-op or internship experience is an asset

  • Support preparation of drawings from detailed notes and specifications
  • Coordination with other technicians/engineers on projects
  • Provide support to Senior Engineers and Designers as and when needed
