Job summary

Fort Valley State University invites applications for the position of Junior Systems Administrator. Reporting to the CIO, you will install, test, maintain, and document university-wide systems software, and assist in planning hardware and software changes to support campus operations.

You will monitor security and uptime, manage servers and network services, and provide technical support to faculty, staff, and students.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent training/experience considered.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems.
Create and maintain technical documentation.
Extensive knowledge of Windows and Mac OS X operating systems.
One year experience in a multi-vendor, multi-platform environment.
Knowledge of PC/Mac hardware and software applications.
Email systems, Listserv, Oracle, Web servers, Active Directory, TCP/IP networking.
Understanding of common network protocols and security issues.
Operational expertise to deliver integrated security solutions

Responsibilities

Manage the team's ticket queue and escalate issues as necessary.
Build electronic forms to advance university efficiency.
Monitor FVSU's website daily to ensure availability, patching, performance, and security.
Maintain continuous system availability, system security procedures and access to user accounts.
Manage university-wide systems such as DHCP, DNS, file, mail, and print servers as well as their associated operating systems and software.
Assist in planning and installation of new hardware and software systems.
Coordinate software system changes and upgrades.
Perform software product evaluation, including installation, testing, reporting, and technical support to the campus community.
Install, configure, tests, maintain, and document systems software including OS, compilers, utility programs, email systems, web-based systems, DBMS, etc.
Manage security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems
Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures to ensure data integrity.
Provide technical support to peers on the use of systems and application software.
Performs other duties as assigned.
