Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Sustainability Specialist in Denver. This entry-level role supports project teams with sustainable design strategies, certification documentation, and coordination across design and construction, under guidance from senior professionals.

Responsibilities include assisting with LEED and other certifications, energy modeling, and research on new green building technologies. Ideal for graduates with a passion for sustainable design and building science.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in a relevant field from an accredited program required.
• Experience or coursework related to sustainable design, green building, building science, energy modeling, or construction preferred.
• Internship or academic experience with LEED or other certification programs preferred.
• Familiarity with sustainable construction practices and materials preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural/engineering drawings is preferred.
• LEED Green Associate credential or interest in obtaining it is a plus.
• Experience with embodied carbon analysis tools like OneClick LCA, EC3, or similar is preferred.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support third-party certifications and sustainable design elements from project inception through construction.
• Review drawings and specs for alignment with sustainability goals and certification requirements.
• Assist sustainability specialists in guiding design, engineering, and construction teams.
• Track and prepare LEED and other certification documentation.
• Assist with LEED construction administration activities including submittals and meetings.
• Conduct research and technical analysis on sustainable design strategies and building performance.
• Support building energy modeling and performance analyses under supervision.
• Maintain project trackers, meeting notes, and certification documentation.
• Participate in quality control reviews and apply feedback to deliverables.
• Stay current on green building standards, materials, and technologies.
