Job summary

EXP is seeking a Junior Structural Engineer to join the Building Structures team in Florida. The role is located in Orlando, Tampa, Miami or Fort Lauderdale, with opportunities to support teams across the United States.

You will work with a diverse, in-house team and subconsultants, performing calculations, modeling in RAM/RISA/ETABS and creating Revit drawings. The position offers mentorship, a collaborative culture and hybrid office attendance.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of building design experience.
• Proficiency in RAM, RISA and ETABS.
• Strong Revit skills for modeling and sheet creation.
• Familiarity with Florida Building Code and IBC.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a structures emphasis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Take direction from senior engineers and project leads with increasing autonomy.
• Contribute to vertical structure design using wood, steel, concrete, masonry, and light gauge framing.
• Perform calculations, sketches, drawings, specifications, and multi-discipline coordination.
• Observe and evaluate existing conditions in the field and from drawings.
• Collaborate with in-house and subconsultant teams on multiple projects.

Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of aBuilding Structuresfocusedteam, and this position would be located in Orlando, Tampa, Miami or Fort Lauderdale.

The Building Structures team executes projects throughout the United States and several US Territories. In addition, opportunities to support non-US based teams within EXP should be expected.

The successful candidate will be able to work as with a diverse team in-house team of professionals and subconsultants throughout the country in all disciplines. You will work and collaborate with experienced members of the Building Structures team for mentoring and career development.

The chosen candidate should expect engagement in a variety of project types. Major market sectors include but are not limited to mission critical buildings, aviation, light passenger rail facilities and commercial building design.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

• Generally, take direction from senior engineers and project leads. Expect autonomy and independence to be commensurate with experience.
• Experience includes Vertical structure design with experience in wood, steel, concrete, masonry and light gauge framing.
• Seismic and wind lateral design experience preferred
• Calculations, sketches, drawing production, specifications, multi-discipline coordination should be expected on a regular basis.
• Conducting observations of and evaluating existing conditions in both the field and via existing historical drawings are commonplace.
• Expect to work on multiple projects concurrently that require coordination of work between multiple EXP offices, as well as outside consultants.
• Occasional short-term travel to project sites. Usually, a single night or two at a time.
• Flexible hours and hybrid office attendance.

What your experience looks like

• Targeted experience level is 2-4 years with a focus on building design.
• Possess a solid understanding of various structural analysis software such as RAM, RISA, ETABS.
• Possess strong Revit skills in both modeling and sheet creation at a minimum. Additional skills on items such as family creation, knowledge of parameter use, and templates is a plus.
• EIT Preferred
• Familiarity with the Florida Building Code and International Building Code. Software: RAM Suite, CSI Suite, Enercalc, Revit.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering w/ an emphasis on structures and/or relevant advanced coursework is considered a minimum requirement.
• Hold excellent written and verbal communication skills. Possess the ability to write persuasively and communicate technical subject matter in a concise and comprehendible manner to a less technical audience.
