Job summary

EXP is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead the Building Structures team from offices including Nashville, TN. The role focuses on design leadership for building projects across the country, mentoring junior staff and coordinating with subconsultants.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years in building structures, PE licensure, and a strong track record in multidisciplinary leadership within a national practice.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in design of building structures.
  • Professional Engineering licensure required; Structural I/II licensure preferred.
  • Master’s degree strongly preferred; Bachelor’s degree with structures emphasis acceptable.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary projects and developing junior team members.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a nationwide team of structural engineers for buildings design.
  • Plan resources and mentor the team to support current and future workload.
  • Design and manage large, long-term projects with cross-discipline coordination.
  • Attend client meetings to discuss design issues and establish requirements.

Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of the Aviation, Transit and Commercial Buildings team, of the Buildings Sector, based in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm, Nashville, Knoxville, Memphis.

We are seeking a talented Senior Structural Engineer to join the Building Structures team as the Structural Team Lead in one of our Southeast offices. The Building Structures group provides structural engineering expertise related to the design and construction of building focused projects throughout the country.

The successful candidate will be able to work both independently as well as with a diverse team in-house team of professionals and subconsultants throughout the country in all disciplines. The ideal candidate will not only provide technical expertise in the execution of projects but be able to provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members.

The chosen candidate should expect engagement in a variety of project types. Major market sectors include but are not limited to mission critical buildings, aviation, light passenger rail, and commercial building design.

What a day at EXP has in store for you
  • Leading and developing a team of structural engineers across United States with a focus on Buildings’ design.
  • Predicting and planning current and future resources, including strategic membership growth, while developing and mentoring the team.
  • Design and management of large, complex, long-term projects (technical or business) while coordinating with other disciplines and external partners within tight time and budget constraints.
  • Attending meetings and communicating with clients to establish their needs and discuss design issues.
  • Business development capabilities, experience with putting fees and proposals together, established network within the architectural industry.
  • Responsible and accountable for client relations (internal and/or external).
  • Represents EXP in the industry at high levels nationally and internationally, e.g. think tanks, standard committees and international conferences.
What Your Experience Looks Like
  • Minimum 10 years of experience related to the design of building structures is preferred. Variation in experience (up or down) will be considered for the ideal candidate.
  • Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies or significant credit towards eligibility for membership.
  • Professional Engineering licensure is required. Licensure as a Structural Engineer via structural specific examination (Structural I/II, Structural Gravity/Lateral) is preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is strongly preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering w/ an emphasis on structures is considered a minimum requirement.
