Job summary

Collins Engineers in Virginia Beach, VA is seeking a Project Engineer I - Design to support our Western Division team. The ideal candidate will contribute to structural design and inspections, work within project timelines and budgets, and liaise with clients, contractors, and government agencies.

Bachelor's or master's in civil engineering; EIT/PE encouraged; hands-on experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and other design tools; 0-5 years of internship or full-time experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and/or master's degree in civil engineering from an accredited four-year university.
• 0-5 years of internship or full-time experience required.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) encouraged.
• Proficient knowledge of office software (Word, Excel, Adobe, or Bluebeam).
• Working knowledge in drafting software such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Microstation, or Revit encouraged.
• Working knowledge in structural design software such as Mathcad, Tekla Tedds, Enercalc, Risa 3D, STAAD, DeepEX, SPW911, BrR, or Hilti Profis encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Performs structural engineering computations according to engineering standards and practices.
• Provides technical engineering expertise to ensure that projects comply with all engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design instructions.
• Reviews, analyzes, and resolves field and/or design issues.
• Prepares complete engineering plans or reports.
• Demonstrates proficiency in computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare design documents.
• Makes design recommendations and/or adaptations.
• Responsible for engineering projects of varying size and complexity in field or office in accordance with plans and specifications.
• Adheres to project budgets and timelines and apprises the Project Manager of potential or anticipated changes in scope.
• Is available to attend client meetings or events outside of normal working hours.
• Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety.
