Job summary

Sodexo is hiring a Junior Sous Chef for Shrewsbury School, a large independent school with diverse dining environments. You will lead the kitchen brigade, deputise for the Head Chef when needed and contribute to exceptional food and service standards across multiple settings.

You will drive menu development, maintain quality at volume and support recruitment, training and ongoing development of the kitchen team.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 Food Production or equivalent.
• Proven experience in a busy professional kitchen.
• Experience with large-scale catering operations and maintaining quality at volume.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Ability to lead, motivate and develop kitchen team members.

Responsibilities

• Oversee food production during and after service, ensuring dishes are prepared and presented to high standards.
• Deputise for the Head Chef when required and support the kitchen operation.
• Bring creativity and flair to the food offer for pupils, staff and visitors.
• Work across different catering environments, from dining halls to events and fine dining.
• Support food ordering and liaise with Stores Supervisor to ensure right products at the right time.
• Monitor and manage food waste and identify efficiency improvements.
• Lead recruitment, induction, training and development of kitchen staff.
