Job summary

Leidos Defense Sensors seeks a Junior Software Engineer to join the JSIL Technology and Certification Center in Huntsville, AL. You will contribute to software design, development, and integration across software, hardware, and networks.

The role requires a BS/MS in CS or related field with 1+ year of software development experience, strong OOP skills, scripting ability, and US citizenship with a Secret clearance. Relocation to Huntsville area may be necessary.

Qualifications

BS degree in computer science or related technical field plus 2-4 years of relevant experience or MS degree plus 1-2 years of relevant experience.
Experience with object-oriented programming in Java, C++, and C#.
Experience using Gitlab CI/CD.
Experience with scripting languages (Bash, Python, PowerShell) including automation of installations.
Understanding of general computing system architectures and virtual machines/containers.
Strong command line experience on UNIX or Windows.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Software Development & Optimization: design and implement software solutions, ensure high-quality, maintainable code, assist with debugging and optimization for large-scale systems.
Documentation & Communication: create detailed technical documentation, system designs, APIs, and diagrams; communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: work with managers, hardware and network engineers to implement system requirements and ensure seamless integration.
Innovation & Technology Evaluation: stay current on emerging technologies, tools, frameworks and methodologies to improve development process and performance.
